About this Event

Workshop 3: Musicality ✨

Build a dancer’s ear and translate what you hear into clear, confident movement. This intensive focuses on phrasing, rhythm, and expressive interpretation across classic tango orchestras.

What we’ll cover:

  • Phrasing discipline: recognising 8- and 16-count phrases and structuring your dance to honour them
  • Rhythmic vs melodic interpretation: identifying motifs in different orchestras and choosing when to move, suspend, or breathe
  • Leader–follower dialogue: shared musical responsibility—how followers read and amplify the leader’s intent for greater presence, and how leaders invite that response
  • Timing vocabulary:
    • A tiempo (tempo fuerte) — landing cleanly on the beat
    • Doble tiempo (double time) — crisp, energised accents
    • Contratiempo — playful off-beat placement
    • Syncopation — nuanced variations within or across phrases
  • Application in shape and space: using linear and circular movements to express the same idea with different textures

Expect targeted drills, listening exercises, and short combinations that make musical choices obvious in your body—so your dance feels intentional, nuanced, and deeply connected to the music.

Pricing per person:
– 1 workshop: $60
– 2 workshops: $110 ($55 per workshop)
– 3 workshops: $150 ($50 per workshop)
– 4 workshops: $180 ($45 per workshop)
– 5 workshops: $200 ($40 per workshop)
– 6 workshops: $210 ($35 per workshop)

**Level: Intermediate+

**Intermediate level suits dancers with more than six months of regular tango experience. You can maintain a comfortable embrace, walk with control in close and open hold, pivot with balance, combine basic vocabulary like ochos, crosses, rebounds and simple turns, and keep good floorcraft in a busy ronda. You are ready to refine technique and musicality while learning longer, more dynamic combinations.
